What could be safer than walking?

What could be safer than walking?

You learned how to do it within the first year of your life. A day doesn’t go by where you don’t rely on this commonplace, essential skill.
Walking has always been considered one of the safest activities, the most economical way to get around and – bonus! – about the best thing you can do for your health.

All good, right?

Well, we’ve had some game changers in the last decade.

Cities are denser and busier around the clock. Hybrid vehicles move silently among us.
Technology has placed us in the crosshairs of danger.

There is so much connection these days and that has led to distraction.
Distracted drivers and distracted pedestrians.

Not a good combination.

In fact, a deadly combination.

It’s bad enough when vehicle hit vehicle, but strip away the protective metal shell and the seat belt, and a defenseless pedestrian is the sure loser in any sudden collision.
Being seen is increasingly important.

You need to know that the driver sees you, even when the pedestrian has the right-of-way, at signalized crosswalks.

Your safety increasingly is in the hands of other people.

Scary thought, huh?

What can you do to stay safe?

Lots. And we want to help. Pedviz.com aggregates the emerging technologies, ideas, evolving laws, and innovations that affect pedestrian safety. Some of it is really cool … and all of it is really useful! We’re hoping you’ll check-in to this pedviz.com blog. We could use all the support we can muster … and remember: everyone is a pedestrian.
